Project and Construction Management
“Project and Construction Management” commonly known as “Construction Project Management” is an expertise and an independent profession area that is effectively applied in the Architecture-Engineering-Construction industry all over the world. Project and Construction Management is also a long-established academic research field with numerous undergraduate, master’s and PhD programs on a global scale.
The Project and Construction Management graduate program, which has been in existence at Istanbul Technical University since 1975, is carried out by the academic board of the program specialized in the field, which also provides lectures in the undergraduate and graduate programs that include project and construction management knowledge areas with up-to-date courses.
The program targets Architecture and Civil Engineering graduates who want to specialize in the project and construction management field. The program establishes strong relations and collaborations with academics and professionals both at national and international levels.
ITU Project and Construction Management program train managers with the technical skills and vision to manage multi-organizational teams throughout the life cycle of the project, the ability to use project management tools and techniques and approach the dynamic project processes holistically to lead the projects in the dynamic and constantly developing Architecture-Engineering-Construction industry.

Candidates of Project and Construction Management Graduate Programs must fulfil the admission conditions indicated in the ITU Graduate Education Regulation and Senate Principles. Additional conditions are:
MSc:
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture and Civil Engineering
- Undergraduate GPA min 3,00/4,00 or 76,66/100
- ALES (Numerical): min 85/100
- GRE (new): min 158, GRE (old): min 740
- GMAT: min 630
- Curriculum Vitae
- Portfolio including student works or professional practice regarding project and construction management field
- Statement of Purpose explaining the reasons to apply
- Recommendation Letter, at least two
PhD:
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture and Civil Engineering
- Undergraduate GPA min 3,00/4,00 or 76,66/100
- MSc GPA min 3,00/4,00 or 76,66/100
- Undergraduate GPA min 3,50/4,00 or 83,33/100 (applications from undergraduate to PhD)
- ALES (Numerical): min 85/100

- GMAT: min 630
- Supervisor Approval Form from the supervisor that the candidates are planning to study together during their education
- Curriculum Vitae
- Portfolio including student works or professional practice regarding project and construction management field
- Statement of Purpose explaining the reasons to apply

***IMPORTANT: Candidates who do not provide the Supervisor Approval Form signed by a faculty member of the Project and Construction Management Academic Board cannot be admitted to the program.
Research Areas
The major focus of the research studies conducted in the Project and Construction Management Graduate Programs is the management of construction projects. The strong collaboration between experienced academic members and industry professionals enables connecting of theory and practice and contributes to the global construction industry through research.

After Graduation
Graduates of the Project and Construction Management program become qualified professionals in the project and construction field and have various career opportunities in employer organizations, consultancy firms, planning and design departments, construction organizations, as well as public institutions and universities.
Graduates who are trained as competent managers in the project and construction management knowledge areas will be equipped with many knowledge and skills along with communication, presentation and problem-solving:
- Having the ability to plan and conduct research, finalize and repeat it, as well as having an in-depth knowledge of contemporary developments in the professional field and being able to apply current knowledge in practice.
- Accessing existing information on a research topic, focusing on research direction, classifying and using the information to prepare scientific reports, and presenting and defending results.
- Being equipped with the ethics, discipline, and culture of the group and individual research and work, being able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to report and document using contemporary management tools and information technologies to respond to current issues and developments in the Architecture-Engineering-Construction sector.
- Having interdisciplinary work, problem-solving, decision-making, leadership, and responsibility-taking skills.
- Understanding construction law and regulations
- Adopting management and organizational principles
- Being able to plan and program projects and construction with proficiency in terminology
- Being able to estimate, plan and control costs
- Being able to estimate, plan and control time
- Being proficient in the concept of quality during construction, being able to plan and control quality management
- Being knowledgeable in different project delivery methods and being able to manage relationships between project participants
- Being able to prepare tender documents for construction projects, manage bidding processes, and manage construction contracts and specifications
- Being knowledgeable in international project and construction contracts and procurement models
- Being able to manage resources such as equipment, materials, and labour
- Being aware of occupational health and safety risks during construction to create safer work environments
