History

Subjects related to the Project and Construction Management area of expertise were included in the “Building Production Systems, Building Cost, Construction Management and Economics, and Professional Practice” courses given within the undergraduate program of ITU Faculty of Architecture, Department of Architecture for the first time in Turkey. The first graduate program in this field, namely, “Building Construction Management” was started in 1975 within the Faculty of Architecture.

Prof. Tulû Baytin, one of the emeritus professors of the ITU Faculty of Architecture, pioneered its establishment as a graduate program by incorporating the Project and Construction Management area of expertise into education programs. He was awarded the TUBITAK Service Award in 2000 due to his contributions.

Since 2000, the program has continued to provide graduate education under the name of “Project and Construction Management” as a MSc program affiliated with the ITU Graduate School (formerly ITU Institute of Science and Technology). The rapid advancement of the Project and Construction Management field both on the national and international scale not only increases the demand for qualified researchers and lecturers in this field, but also arises the demand for experts to take an active role within the industry.
